RM (Kim Namjoon) of BTS unveiled his solo documentary film RM: Right People, Wrong Place at its world premiere as a part of the 'Open Cinema' section of the 29th BUSAN International Film Festival (BIFF).
RM: Right People, Wrong Place chronicles the eight-month process leading up to his second solo album, Right Place, Wrong Person, released in May 2024. Complemented by artfully candid visuals, the film offers an up-close and intimate glimpse into RM, as the leader of BTS, a solo artist, as well as the person Kim Namjoon (RM’s given name). Capturing the creative powerhouse’s journey in creating an album that reflects his distinctive sensibility, aesthetics, and beliefs, RM: Right People, Wrong Place—which BIFF described as “both a film about the making of RM’s album and a very special record of a unique youth”—is the first film focused on a K-pop artist to be officially selected for the ‘Open Cinema’ section at Asia's largest film festival.
Despite the heavy rain, the audience at the outdoor screening held on October 7 (KST) was filled with viewers from all over the world who came to experience the film on the big screen. Before the screening began, director Lee Seokjun, co-director Im Subin, and music director JNKYRD, along with San Yawn and Jang Sehoon, who contributed to the production of RM's second solo album, took the stage to greet the audience.
Director Lee Seokjun remarked, “The film is a testament to RM’s deep introspection, while also being a record of relatable emotions that everyone has experienced at least once in their lives.” Those involved in the production of RM’s album expressed their gratitude, stating, “We are thankful to experience RM’s story together in such a special setting. We want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to RM and the audience.”
The excitement on site heightened as RM's exclusive interview clip was presented prior to the film. In the video, RM stated, “The film is a vivid collection of moments from the life of Kim Namjoon, the human being,” adding, “‘right’ and ‘wrong’ depend on our perspectives, which change with time and circumstances. While working on this project, I believe I’ve become one of the ‘right’ people.”
As the screening concluded, the outdoor venue erupted in applause as the audience cheered until the final credits rolled. RM shared a heartfelt message of appreciation towards his fans, displayed in the credits: ‘OUR BIGGEST VOICE, ARMY.'
RM: Right People, Wrong Place is set to meet global audiences in theatres worldwide this December.
